The Golden State Warriors after winning in Brooklyn are now 23-0, What we are seeing can't be described, It's sounds very dramatic yea but you got ask yourself: when was the last time you seen basketball played at the level we are watching this time. So smooth so effortless this what basketball is supposed to look like. Now we know Mark Jackson got a raw deal in Golden State with management and it's the reason we are not talking about Mark Jackson as a NBA championship winning coach at this time. Say what you will about that. What Steve Kerr has brought to the Warriors is a championship attitude that has spread like wildfire though out that whole organization and now what we see now is a team that can't be stopped to this point.
Now I mentioned Steve Kerr and even though he is not there at this time due to back surgery he is not there but like I said before his imprint is all over the team. There cool, they have this vibe as if y'all kno you can't beat us right!? Then they go out and back up what there going to do thru there vibe. The system the Warriors run is not of Phill Jackson triangle offense which Kerr as a player won 3 straight titles with the Bulls from 96-98 and was part of which is as of right now the greatest basketball in the modern era of the NBA. The system I see is of the San Antonio Spurs in which Kerr won another titles. The ball movement the the iq and the best part about it is there playing small ball doing all this. The traditional big man is almost gone now if not by next will all but extinct unless Tim Duncan "THE GREATEST POWER FORWARD IN NBA" decides to come back for one more year. Now all I want to see is the first matchup between the Spurs and Warriors but we can't see that throw down till January. To me that will be the test to see where there at, I know this much is for sure, There not going to lose by 50 like Memphis did back at the start of the season!
You know your good when peers start making excuses on why you won and what not. Like Doc Rivers coach of the L.A Clippers and I'm going toparaphrasing "they basically got lucky with injuries and not playing the tougher teams in the playoffs last year.
I see this and say to myself, 1. Why the hell would you want adversity on you way to a championship I mean this not the NFL cause a tough game will toughen you up for the playoffs just in case you get into a tough game. Why the hell would you want tough games all the time? By the time you get to postseason your done no legs and your gone early. 2. 30 teams 82 games to position yourself for the easiest path to a championship that's what the NBA says you got to play and the top 16 8 in each conference gets in. Then you play 4 best of 7 games and if you are able to win 16 games you win the Larry O'brian trophy. I wonder if Doc knows this?! He should he won with the Celtics in 08. Maybe if you can get Blake to play like on of the best power forward in the league today maybe you could have played them in the conference finals but you didn't cause you blew a 3-1 lead in the conference semi's, forgot about that?! 3. I had to make this separate, Tell DeAndre Jordan to call Shaq, learn how to make some of your free throws. There free99 nobody is guarding you! Learn some post moves please. There paying you 88 million to be somebody great not do what you was doing all the years before you got your deal.
Now back to Greatness and the Floor General leading the Warriors to this epic feat how can you deny him any more. Chef Curry is cooking in the kitchen and right now averaging 31.6 ppg. 5.2 reb and 6.0 assists on 51% shooting from the field 44% from 3-pt range 94% for the line. You say he plays no defense well averaging 2.5 steals a game and is a way better defender than when he first got into the league. Now the numbers are crazy but he's doing it on averaging only 34 min a game! He's almost scoring a point a minute! Are you not entertained!! Now my co-host when he reads this will probably call me every name in the book cause it's not Kobe, well I would say to him. If feel like writing about Jordan 2.0 then be my guest but right now the chef is in the kitchen. PS: yea Joe I know Kobe had 34pts ok great!
Now the Warriors are not all about the Cheif he also has Clay Thompson great shooter in his own right good all around player. Then There's Andre Igulodala who last year put on a great performance against the King James in the NBA finals, I'm happy for Iggy he's s great defender and jack of all trades with his passing, shooting, off ball play its amazing how his career has come full circle. Draymond Green the key to the small ball movement in the Warriors system, green can play SF-C is also a great passer good defender and is tough he doesn't back down anything.
The question is now where does this stop? They've set the modern day record for most wins to start a season in the 4 professional sports passing the 1884 St.Louis Maroons who were 20-0 to start there season . The maroons first lost came to the Boston Unions 8-1, of course back then there was no box score I guess! So who is playing the role of the Boston Unions? It might be the Boston Celtics young enough to run with the Warriors but highly unlikely but you never kno if they can ending this legendary streak. If this streak does end or whenever it ends there is nothing to be ashamed about losing the feat and the historical importance in sports is far greater and this is what makes this team Golden.
The NBA season is set to start next week and I'm very excited for this season in particularly cause the new faces of the league are starting to take shape some teams are gearing for a Championship run. Teams like the San Antonio Spurs, The Cleveland Cavaliers, the Oklahoma City Thunder and, of course, the reigning champions Golden State Warriors, now this team we know have the best shot to win a championship this year. Some teams though are saying they want to win a championship, but the parts don't look right at all.
Now the reason I'm writing this is to show Knicks fans it will not be in cards for them this season or seasons to come because of the history of the New York Knicks and it's not been a good one beside the fact back in 1970 in game 7 of the NBA Finals hall of fame player Willis Reed iconic run out the tunnel at MSG(Madison Square Garden) the world most famous arena witness true heart and grit when Reed suited up with torn thigh muscle scored the first 2 baskets of the game and propelled the Knicks to their first world championship vs the L.A Lakers. The second came in 73 when Knicks beat the L.A Lakers again in 5 short games 4-1 since that time the Knicks have been killing their fans with heartbreaking losses in the playoffs and finals and I'm going to help navigate you through blunders in this 2 part piece.
We first Start in 1993 game 5 of the Eastern conference finals vs at the time the defending 2-time champion Chicago Bulls and his Airness. Now the Knicks are down by one with the ball and 30 seconds left to go in the game. Ewing drives to his left trying to draw a charge and he ends up losing the ball and it fall right in the lap of Charles Smith(God bless his heart) and he goes up for the shot blocked, he gets it back again blocked, and again and again now some will cry foul but in those moments you know nothing is going to get called under that time at most points. I'm saying pass the ball out Charles it's ok to get rest! Well, they lose the game and the series in 6 lol lol.
The next year 1994 and the best chance to win a championship put Patrick Ewing against Hakeem "the dream" Olajuwon in the best of 7 NBA finals which were a gritty series. This Also was the introduction to how crazy O.J Simpson was in that famous chase during game 5. Now we go to game 7 the stage is set for a classic matchup of two of the great big men at that time and who shows up and thinks he's Jordan..... John (bleeping) Starks haaaaaaaa!!!!! The man shot 2-18 and 0-10 in the fourth quarter. As I look back now I really do feel Starks was trying to build a trump plaza in Houston with all the bricks he was jacking up. Outside the grown-ups were pissed I could hear every cheer and every moan and somebody said don't shoot Starks at one point. Needless to say, the Knicks lost to the Rockets. When my some of my family came upstairs I could hear a friend of our cursing Starks bad, we were laughing but knew not to do it in front of them it was funny to me.
Then 1995 game 1 of the conference semifinals the Knicks vs the Indiana Pacers down by 6 with 18 seconds to go 8 points in 9 seconds is all Reggie Miller needed. He hits a 3 to make it 102 to 105, then out of nowhere Miller steals the ball and hits another 3 to tie the game it's like unreal the crowd was silent and that's when I learned spike lee was a fan of the Knicks that made it funnier to me cause he was the one egging Reggie on (shaking my head) than they foul Reggie he hits 2 more free throws and the pacers stole the victory and the Knicks was known as choke artist but it didn't stop there either.
Game 7 of the eastern conference semifinals the Knicks down by 2 with seconds left on the clock Derrick Harper inbounded the ball to Patrick Ewing And when he go the ball the basket was wide open no one was in sight. Now as this is happening my sister and her boyfriend which is now her husband watched this game and it was intense and right before the layup he was happy he thought over time was coming and the Knicks still had a shot at your boy although he was injured they say still had an open path to the basket. This man of all things tries a finger roll!!!!!! This man must have thought he was "Iceman" George Gervin! The play looked nice but just like all the other times they fail or in this series in particular choked. At this point, me and sister's husband usual played live 95 after, I paused and I ask you wanna play he said no I'm good. It hit him that bad.
Now there is a part 2 and from there we will go from Ewing to Melo cause the other years I don't know what in the high hell was going on there. At one point, I felt sorry for the Knicks we will get there to that point.

So Chip Kelly you thought you could simply come into the NFL and do whatever you want and have success as a dictator type in the league!! Oh yeah, now look at you, your team is 0-2 with the worst looking offense in the NFL. You let DeSean Jackson go one of the best deep threats in the league, go, for what really? Then trade Leshawn McCoy one of the best shifty back in the conference?!!! Cause he wasn't starting to fall in line with what you were doing! This is not college you just can't let talent go cause you want to throw your weight around whenever you want. These are grown men here, they build the league not you.
In college yes, you have all right, but this is the pros now, money and talent is what keeps you having a job, Ask Steve Spurrier cause he thought he could come in and do whatever he wanted to as well. You know where he is now?, South Carolina university and that's where he belongs.
Now the first season you made it to the playoffs and that was great, but then of course you got to big for yourself and now people are looking at you like you are serious! He dismantled the Eagles to this point and it looks bleak right now. Maybe chip can turn it round, but let's be real.......... Sam Bradford is going to help you get out of this! I mean Chip you got Demarco Murry he's a stud, but he only had 11yds on 21 carries! And your Offensive line is horrid at best cause you didn't or the higher up's for Eagles didn't want to give Evan Mathis his well earned money either same you chip and the Eagles and now you're reaping what you sowed all this time doing wrong to these players in my mind. Maybe again Chip you can turn it around, it's still early, I see it in your eyes though Chip you're ready to go right back to college where you belong and hopefully never to return to the NFL ever again, Thanks for playing I want to be a NFL coach.
Floyd Money Mayweatther will be facing Andre Burto for the unified welterweight title this Saturday Night. Although this is supposed to be the "last fight" in the career of the formerly named "pretty boy Floyd" I look at this fight as a joke, After the fraudulent fight of the century where it looked like Floyd was ready to challenge Usain Bolt to a race the way he was running around in the ring against Manny Pacquiao it was horrid at best and Pacquiao look like he was searching for clues on how to touch Floyd, then that BS excuse that Manny's shoulder was hurt........ Cry me a damn river your ass shouldn't have stepped into the ring that night Manny!!!
Now there are many fans of money Mayweatther whom I've encountered just sees the star quality of it, they know no real boxing and its sad cause if you really look at Floyd's Career it's full of names that we know. But in boxing I believe where were they in their prime of their careers, Which I say no which to me says he basically pulling off what Rocky Marciano the man who's records Floyd is trying to tie on Saturday night and just as they said about Marciano, Floyd is capitalizing opponents that have no business in there with him including: Robert the Ghost Guerrero, 2 fights with Marcos Maidana which made no sense to me at all. And old and decrepit Oscar Del la Hoya and sugar Shane Mostly who, though using foam sticks during training would help him win that fight.
I would like to see Floyd fight some of the young talent make me believe you Floyd. I know my word to him won't mean much and I'll not knock this man for making his paper you do what you do, he cannot though sit there and say sports wise, he's the best ever cause these are hand picks hands he and team come up who I call the yes men in his camp. I would like to see Floyd fight Keith "One time" Thurman he's undefeated to with more of a skill set that could give Floyd problems or Danny Garcia, you know why he won't fight them?!! Cause as many Floyd supporters say they just want a payday!!! What!!!!! What Floyd thinks this is about, everybody trying to make Money and have fame that's why you got into the sport! So deserving guys like Thurman and Garcia, who have that skill can't get a chance, but Andre Burton gets one and he's 3-3 in his last 6 fights what!!!!!!!!
Floyd listen man if you don't want to fight the best and you're worried about the undefeated mark or help people get money just retire get out the boxing game you made your money for you and your family just go and let the real fighters fight.
Hi Pondering Nerds!
I recently completed a really enlightening and engaging Coursera course, Learning How to Learn. It taught me so much about how I can become a more effective lifelong learner. The main and supporting instructors, Professors Barbara Oakley and Terry Sejnowski respectively, are experts in the field of the biology of the brain.
Three concepts that stuck out for me that I'd love to share with you are Procrastination, Impostor Syndrome, and entering into a "Zombie Mode" of working.
Here's a description for each of these concepts in my own words (no Googling for definitions here!) along with some helpful approaches when facing them:
When you delay completing a task purposefully because you want to avoid the pain you feel when thinking about it. You tend to make up excuses about why you are avoiding starting the task, but it usually has to do with the avoidance of the pain.
A great statement we can all say to ourselves when we are faced with a task we deep inside do not want to do is to say "I CAN do anything if I just put my mind to it. And if I don't accomplish the outcome I desire at least I put my best effort into it". This will remind us that we are not perfect but we are pretty close to it, and our best efforts are not too far off. Our perseverance can bring us farther than we could ever imagine!
Believing that any successes you achieve was attributed to luck and not from your own abilities. This is very common and can be self-defeating, impacting self-esteem. Many people suffer from this because they compare themselves to others' seemingly effortless outcomes to doing the same difficult tasks. You think that you are a fraud, hence thinking you are an "impostor". It was pretty funny to learn this after the revelation hit me how universal this is.
One great approach to not having the Syndrome sink in and rear its ugly head is to have positive self-talk: messages like "OK, I'm feeling overwhelmed right now but I can do this, I just need to be kind to myself in this moment" and "So many people have this very feeling and thought I am feeling and thinking right now. How alike we all really are!" are truly beneficial in snapping us out of negative patterns of thinking.
Entering into Zombie Mode
When you are doing an action that you have lots of experience doing such as operating a machine everyday, riding a bike, or repeating a script you read as a customer service rep (believe me, I've talked to more than one Zombie in customer service!), your brain enters a semi-conscious process (think being on "autopilot"), instead of actively focusing on the task at hand to the extent where all of the information you concentrate on becomes overwhelming. We all have this ability because our brains need to save energy for other more important tasks that can't be prepared for beforehand. The Zombie Mode is made up of four steps in this order: A cue, a routine that is started by the cue, a reward, and a reason/belief for the mode itself. The belief gives the Mode its power! Habits are created by entering the Zombie Mode over time.
Habits can be good (our brains NEED to go into Zombie Mode from time to time!) and bad. Bad habits (like procrastination) can be approached in an effective manner in order to change them by focusing on the process of a hard task and not on the outcome or product of that effort. This will relieve you of the stress of worrying about accomplishing the product. Think entering into a Zen Mode instead of a Zombie Mode when doing something you are avoiding.
One word on online courses: The benefits of MOOCs are endless. If you've ever wanted to take an online class please check out Coursera. I promise you they will have more than enough courses to affirm your interests!
Not sure how many knows this but Marvel dropped an announcement showcasing their road map for movies to be released in the next well 5 to 6 years.
May 6, 2016—Captain America: Civil War
November 4, 2016—Doctor Strange
May 5, 2017—Guardians of the Galaxy 2
July 28, 2017—Thor: Ragnarok
November 3, 2017—Black Panther
July 5, 2018—Captain Marvel
November 2, 2018—Inhumans
May 2018—Avengers: Infinity War (Part 1)
May 2019—Avengers: Infinity War (Part 2)
Now I have to say it's very impressive they have committed to these release dates in such a bullish way. I see even some well asked for diversity with moves like Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Inhumans are in the works.
Fans have pointed out in the past, that the current slate of movies released by marvel lacked diversity when in their books it's everywhere. So fans were worried that the black panther movie or captain marvel movie would never see the light of day on the big screen. If the point of the movies is to represent what's in the books then they should go all the way.
Now some are saying this Marvel announcement spells doom for DC and their slates of movies to come. Now its true DC comic book movies aren't that good and from what I understand that’s because they don't have much of a say with studios about the end result like marvel has. It seems DC's reach of influence only affects the animated movies and TV shows which have been very good overall.
I am very excited indeed because it's all I can dream for in movie land, but marvel fans don't be so quick to jump and say "we have won". I am willing to bet that DC has an ace up its sleeve. One which "if done right" can bring them back into focus of sorts.
That ace is Constantine, I say this because I have been reading the New 52 version of this story and along his travels he runs into all sort of heroes, and in my opinion might just be all DC needs to fill in what the fans want and to expose a mass audience to characters that don't get screen time on NBC.
Now you are asking what’s DC response and here is a list:
Lego’s “Ninjago,” (2016) Charlie Bean directs.
“Suicide Squad,” directed by David Ayer (2016)
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” (2016) David Yates directs with JK Rowling making her screenwriting debut.
“Wonder Woman,” starring Gal Gadot (2017)
“The Lego Batman Movie” (2017) Chris McKay directs.
“Justice League Part One,” directed by Zack Snyder, with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Amy Adams confirmed to reprise their roles (2017)
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2” (2018)
“The Flash,” starring Ezra Miller (2018)
“Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa (2018)
“The Lego Movie 2″ (2018)
“Shazam,” with Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam (2019)
“Justice League Part Two,” directed by Zack Snyder (2019)
“Cyborg,” starring Ray Fisher (2020)
“Green Lantern” (2020)
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3” (2020)
Both companies have an impressive lineup for the next 6 years, I say let the battle begin only time will tell.
I don't have a lot to say other than it's about damn time HBO, it's about time!
Not sure what I'm talking about? Let me explain.
For decades HBO has been a part of the cable world, which has given us some of the best shows to grace the small. A few years back HBO set it up a notch and released HBO Go which allow users to stream all their shows and some movies much like Netflix. The only problem is (or I should was) it was tied to your cable subscription.
Today HBO announced it will be leaving the dirty clutches of cable and go full streaming in 2015. What this means is cable television as it's known is dying and I for one look forward to its death.

Don't let their simple name fool you. They can't be locked down by musical genre, artistic medium, or region. Heck I suspect that they emerged from outer space! They transcend my limited understanding of Kenyan music and musicians and I LOVE being knocked down from my ignorant high horse. I want more! JAB has jabbed me with the Kenyan scene and I am appreciative of coming across their work for sure.
An artist's collective, they are self-described nerds who use the latest media technologies to entertain and educate consumers worldwide primarily through their YouTube videos. Some comments on their videos describe their melodies and messages as deep and at least one fan would like to make love with it. Literally. I can relate. I love music. When I get that feelin', I need musical healin'. Yes I said it. What?!
Just A Band has been interviewed by major media outlets such as Reuters and The New York Times, and exhibited internationally with their Kudishnyao! exhibition in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Nairobi, showing also at the Rush Arts Gallery in NYC.
I hope for a number of things. I hope that they keep making music for decades to come, that their band receives the support they need and more to spread around, and that Kenya really treasures what role they play in the international arts and entertainment technology scene.
We have all had some form of mentoring in our life. Whether it was a teacher at school, a parent/guardian/older sibling at home, or an awesome boss at work. For some of us Nerds, we have had other influences effect us through pop culture. Here is a short list of some top mentors and their pupils from nerd culture over the years in movies, TV, comics, and books.
#5) Mr. Miyagi and Daniel-San
Sorry to disappoint anyone born after 2000, but Jaden Smith is not the Karate Kid, and Jackie Chan is not the real Mr. Miyagi, though both did well in the recent reboot. Old person spoiler alert! Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1984 for this role, the original Mr. Miyagi was fantastically played by Noriyuki "Pat" Morita. For those that might not know, The Karate Kid is a story about a troubled teen with anger issues, Daniel LaRusso (played by Ralph Macchio). Through Mr. Miyagi's guidance and famous quotes like "Wax on, wax off," Daniel learns to channel his strength and energy through the ancient Japanese art form that is Karate... and waxing cars of course!
#4) Professor X and the X-Men
Out of the many teachers/leaders for superhero squads, Professor Charles Xavier really fits the "mentor" role the best. Professor X not only mentored the core group of X-Men that we all know an love, but in both the comic books and movies, he opened a school specifically to help mutant children learn to wield their powers responsibly. X-Men was an interesting entry into the comic scene in 1963, because they added a twist on how we saw our "cape-crusaders." Before them, every other superhero was either an alien from another world, or the result of a scientific experiment gone horribly wrong. X-Men basically introduced the concept that through genetic mutation, superheros/villains were now born, like everyone else.
#3) The Oracle and Neo
Neo : "But if you already know, how can I make a choice?"
The Oracle: "Because you didn't come here to make the choice, you've already made it. You're here to try to understand why you made it. I thought you'd have figured that out by now."
The first Matrix movie, released in 1999, blew audiences minds with its ground-breaking visual effects and deep, philosophical story. The main character of the series is Mr. Anderson, aka Neo, played by Keanu Reeves. In the movie, humans have lost the Earth to machines and now most of them unknowingly live in a virtually simulated world (the Matrix), when in reality they are in a mechanical prison built by their captures. Neo is an anomaly or glitch in the system that can break the rules and limitations of the Matrix and his goal is to try and wake people up from this false world, all the while trying to save the last human city of Zion. To do this, he needs a lot of help and advice. Though he has lots of people teach him on his path to discovering he is the One, none more shine brighter than the Oracle. The Oracle in the movie is considered the "Mother" of the Matrix, and is basically omnipotent. Neo constantly seeks her out in the series for advice on how to proceed in the battle against the machines and what the meaning of life is after his "awakening." The part of the Oracle was played by actress Gloria Foster in both the first and second films, but tragically, she passed away during the series. The role was reprized by Mary Alice in the third film.
#2) Master Splinter and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Who knew we could all grow to love a giant rat and some mutated reptiles! TMNT has been a nerd classic since it stepped onto the scene in a comic book in 1984. Soon to follow was a cartoon series, a movie franchise, and a merchandising frenzy. The story of TMNT is that 4 young turtles and an older rat get transformed into human-sized, crime fighting machines via Ooze, a genetically enhancing substance that accidentally seeped into the sewer. These masked vigilantes try to live in secret in said sewers, training in Ninjitsu by their sensie, Master Splinter. Splinter has his hands full as these turtles have a maturity level of teenagers; goofing off, exploring and wandering off when they shouldn't, and of course, uncontrollable urges for greasy pizza! Whenever the Turtles run into a problem they can't solve, Master Splinter always has a solution, or at least a way advice to help them find the answer. Though portrayed as old with a walking cane, Splinter is a master Ninja with the speed and skills to match.
#1) Yoda and Luke Skywalker
Star Wars as a franchise most certainly speaks for itself in popularity. It is probably the most followed movie series in history if you consider how many fan-projects, books, cartoons, video games, and everything else that has come from it. One of the major concepts of the movies is the there are these people called Jedi, that can use this almost spiritual power called the Force. Now as most know, the first 3 movies were actually #'s 4, 5, &6 in the series. Originally, the Force was something that anybody could wield if the had enough mental clarity and constitution. This is one factor that helped millions of Star Wars fans identify with the movie. However, many of these same fans felt betrayed when entries # 1, 2, & 3 came out and messed up the whole theology some say. In these entries, the mysticism was tried to explained scientifically as some people have things called Metacholrians, and some people, actually most people don't. SCREW YOU LUCAS! Why did you have to make it an elitist thing! ...*Cough* ... *Gathers composure* ... Ahem... as I was saying:
Young Jedi are called Padawans, and they were trained by older and wiser mentors, none more prominent then Yoda. After Luke Skywalker cruises the galaxy a bit as a freedom fighter, he crash lands on Degoba, where he meets Yoda and starts his intensive Jedi training. Yoda we later find out was the head of the Jedi Order in the later movies. That more or less makes him the most knowledgeable person of the Force in the universe. Though Luke has some minor training from Obi-Wan Kenobi, training with Yoda seems to be one of the turning points for Luke on knowing his power and path in life. Though portrayed as old and mostly famous for his quirky yet insightful way of talking, Yoda is not afraid to wield his lightsaber as shown in second installment, The Clone Wars. Every Sci-Fi Nerd both young and old has to give credit to Yoda!
These are just some of my favorite Nerd Mentors throughout the years, but I most certainly couldn't list them all. So please leave a comment below and let us know who are some your most favorite Mentors in Nerd Culture!

I learned about the sisters Angela and Luciana Giussani from reading an article about Diabolik the movie in the film magazine Video Watchdog (Curti & Di Rocco, 2014). I was intrigued because of the violence described in Diabolik and thought that was really cool that two women in 1960's Italy created such a comic at that time. I believe wholeheartedly that women can write just as much sick and violent shit as any man given the chance and incentive to (primarily for them to give THEMSELVES that chance and incentive).
"Negli anni Cinquanta, quando le poche donne che guidano un’automobile sono ancora guardate con curiosità e sospetto, Angela ha addirittura il brevetto di pilota d’aereo", quote from Astorina website.
Translated by Google:
"In the fifties, when the few women who drive a car are still regarded with curiosity and suspicion, Angela even has his pilot's license plane [sic]"
There are hidden jewels like Diabolik that can make any jaded comic book reader have new material to consume. I am a fledgling to the world of comics but I have the benefit of starting off my reading comics with cool works like this. I will search the world for the limited English versions of the comic and perhaps even learn enough Italian to get by since I know French and it’s kinda sorta similar.
Angela and Luciana Giusanni are Milanese-born writers who created Diabolik back in 1962 in Angela's publishing house Astorina (Wikipedia, 2014). Their writing was inspired by Italian and French pulp fiction. The comic centers around an anti-hero named Diabolik, a criminal who dancers to the beat of his own drum alongside his muse and partner, the sinister Eva Kant. He is from an island abandoned by his parents. He grew up trained to become a mastermind thief and scientific genius who engineers his wares and disguises at will, foiling his opponents every time unless he can't get out of a bind (literally or otherwise) he can rely on Eva Kant to come to his aid.
A woman having her own publishing house in Italy during the 1960's was unheard of and the Giusanni sisters, like Diabolik, also danced to the beat of their own drums. More like dubstep in the land of the jazz enthusiasts.
Diabolik was initially published as a black and white pamphlet and sold in Italian newsstands. It is now internationally consumed not just at newsstands but on the Astorina site along with other cool merchandise. Diabolik can be purchased in digital form as well.
There is a video game based on the comic for the Wii, DS, PSP, and the PS2. Also check out the Beastie Boys' music video "Body Movin" to see Diabolik''s drama-filled, action-packed inspiration. Thanks for the heads up on this Super Rad Now! I always wonder what films, art works, and stories inspire the music videos of today. Their references can be so random!
